Who We Are

The Resonate Music team, located in beautiful Colorado Springs, CO, is comprised of Board Certified music therapists that are trained in a variety of instruments and clinical skills to reach a diverse population of clients and students. All of our therapists bring unique approaches and strengths to our team, allowing us to connect with many people and families in different ways, all while practicing with person centered therapy as our priority.

We pride ourselves on treating everyone with unconditional respect, positive regard and personalized care, whether that is in our clinical environment or our studio lessons! In addition to music therapy, we also provide music education with private and adaptive lessons. All in all, we foster a welcoming environment for exploration and growth.

Meet our team

Marissa Neathery (they/them) MT-BC - Owner

Marissa Neathery is the owner and founder of Resonate Music Therapy.

With six years of experience as a board certified music therapist, they specialize in seeing children who have experienced trauma, as well as teens/young adults that are navigating life.

In their own words, Marissa says, “Therapy is a support that anyone may benefit from at any point in life. Building a therapeutic relationship based on mutual respect and trust is hugely important to me- I want each client I see to feel they can be their true, congruent self within sessions.

“Feedback informed treatment, where the client is integral to the treatment process, is the foundation of my approach. As a therapist, my job is to facilitate an environment where you can be challenged but also have the autonomy and support to say, ‘That’s too tough for today, let’s move on.’ Bodily autonomy and self determination underscore my approach to each person I work with.

Bodily autonomy and self determination underscore my approach to each person I work with. Neurodiversity, disability, and LGBTQ+ rights are my passions. Two of my major interests are working with children who have experienced trauma (particularly sexual abuse, RAD, ODD, adoption/foster care/attachment issues), and teens/young adults in all stages of life."

Reid Edington (she/her) MT-BC - Clinical Director

Reid is from Nashville, TN where she studied music therapy with her principal instrument in voice. Reid has had many different population experiences throughout her career, but has a specific passion and focus on developmental disabilities in all stages of life.

Reid has been with Resonate for 5 years where she has spent significant time honing her approach of person-centered therapy. One of the most rewarding parts of music therapy for Reid is being able to connect with people through music, play, and the shared experiences of being a human. Throughout the years, Reid has seen the immense value of music therapy as a space for authentic self expression, autonomy, and enjoyment.

“Helping people of all diagnoses celebrate their individual strengths and work on goals that are important to them, is my primary focus in treatment. I prioritize the client’s needs and wants in a session in order to create a safe and motivating place for growth. Being curious and open each day to what a client might bring into the room is the basis for how I operate. As a person-centered therapist, building rapport and trust in the space is my foundation to successful treatment.”

Natalie McConnell (she/her) MT-BC - Boulder Metro Area Location

Natalie graduated with her Bachelor’s in Music Therapy with an Emphasis in Psychology from Seattle Pacific University.

Natalie has experience with a wide variety of populations including older adults with Alzheimer's and dementia, at-risk youth and young adults, individuals with traumatic brain injuries, adults in a hospital setting, and children in a school setting.

She is excited to work with even more populations and to dive deeper into clinical and musical training as she discovers more about who she is as a therapist.

"I have experience with a variety of populations including children with intellectual and developmental needs, at-risk youth and young adults, older adults on hospice, individuals with mental health needs, and Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI). My approach is person-centered with aspects of behavioralism. I understand that people have unique stories, abilities, and experiences and believe in meeting clients where they are."

Amy McQuinn (she/her) MM, MT-BC

Amy earned her master’s equivalency in music therapy from Illinois State University, carried out her internship at the STAR Center in Jackson, Tennessee, and has since been working in various private practice settings, serving all ages. She takes an eclectic approach to her therapy sessions, drawing from an array of techniques that she has learned to best serve each client individually.

Amy knew from a young age that she wanted to pursue music as a career, learning as many instruments as she could. After high school, she studied music at Southern Illinois University - Edwardsville, her principal instrument being clarinet, before she discovered and pursued music therapy. She believes that a career in music therapy perfectly combines the things she is passionate about: being creative, musical, and beneficial.

“I feel that there is no one way to be an effective therapist. I personally have a calm and supportive energy, giving my clients space to process, have choices, and exercise autonomy. While I have enjoyed working with a variety of different populations, I seem to connect best with teens and adults who are working through mental health struggles. I thrive in helping people build confidence, identify and process emotions, find appropriate outlets for those emotions, and build healthy coping skills. I spend a lot of time with my clients building a therapeutic relationship because I believe progress can only be made where there is trust between client and therapist, which can take time, especially in cases of previous trauma.”

Micaela Garcia (she/they) MT-BC

Mica is a board-certified music therapist who works with children, teens, and adults towards a variety of goals with a strengths-based approach. They work with clients to help foster self-expression through music, explore their needs, and learn how to advocate for themselves. Mica recognizes that each client is a professional of their own self and pays attention to what their clients tell them with words and show them through behavior to inform the important question: “What are they needing at this time?”

Connection and joy are so essential in the therapeutic space for setting clients up for success and encouraging growth. Mica’s role is to validate client’s experiences, offer skills/tools to aid in coping with life through a neurodiversity affirming lens, and provide support in the form of client-preferred music. They respect all forms of communication, recognizing that all behavior is communication. Emotional/sensory regulation is the first priority during sessions.

“Therapy is an intentional time for clients to pay attention to their wellbeing. I am always learning from my clients, making for a collaborative therapeutic process that is always tailored to the specific needs and abilities of my clients.”

After becoming a board certified music therapist in April of 2021, Gabby then moved to Colorado where she continued to work in mental health, while also gaining clinical experience  working with neurodiverse children, teens, adults, and elders, in individual and group settings.

“Music is a really adaptable and accessible way to work towards goals. I enjoy being able to scaffold support for clients in a way that works for them. I have a client-led approach, and feel that creating a safe environment is crucial in facilitating growth and progress towards goals. I respect each person’s timeline for change- if someone is not ready to work on something in a particular way, I’ll work with them to find a way that will work for them.”

“As a therapist, I draw from a person-centered approach, focusing on building rapport with each client and tailoring each session to the individualized needs of each client. I strive to create and nurture genuine and authentic relationships with my clients and their families.”
